Children Educate Themselves III: Wisdom of Hunter-Gatherers
Hunter-gatherer children learn through observation, play, and exploration without adult intervention or direction. Adults trust that children will educate themselves through their own pursuits, which includes observing and emulating adult activities. Children are free to play most of the day, every day, and incorporate observed activities into their play, gradually becoming skilled at those activities. This self-directed learning approach is seen as a powerful motivator for children to grow up and become like successful adults.
