The Union Home Minister recently introduced three comprehensive Criminal Justice Codes on procedure, evidence, and offences before Parliament. These Codes are seen as game changers, representing an Indianised version of criminal justice and a break from the colonial past. The Penal Code, which has remained largely unchanged since 1860, has been updated to include offences such as sedition, cruelty to women, dowry, community service, and fake news, terrorism, organised crime, and corruption.
