The study examined metabolic syndrome risk factors in 1,155 students from three ethnic groups: Mestizo, Tarahumara, and Mennonite. The results showed that Mestizos had higher percentages of affected individuals with multiple health risks, while Tarahumara participants were the lowest in health risks. Mennonites showed a high frequency of anthropometric and fitness health risks with low glycolipid and vascular risks. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was higher in Tarahumara adolescents compared to Mestizo and Mennonite. The study highlights the importance of considering ethnic group differences in cardiovascular risk components at an early age.
