Ashikaga Yoshimasa - Wikipedia

Ashikaga Yoshimasa was the 8th shogun of the Ashikaga shogunate, reigning from 1449 to 1473 during Japan's Muromachi period. He was known for his cultural achievements and his role in shaping Japanese aesthetics. His reign saw the growth of Higashiyama culture, which emphasized tea ceremonies, flower arrangement, Noh drama, and Indian ink painting. Yoshimasa also played a significant role in the Ōnin War, which marked the beginning of the Sengoku period. He retired twice, once to his son Ashikaga Yoshihisa and again to his nephew Ashikaga Yoshitane, before ultimately dying in 1490.
