Hugo Kapet – Wikipedia, wolna encyklopedia

Hugo Kapet, count of Paris, Orléans, Senlis and Dreux, was a French nobleman who ruled from 987 to 996. He was the founder of the Capetian dynasty, which would rule France until 1328 and in side lines until 1848. Hugo married Adelaida and had five children with her. He became king of the Franks after the sudden death of Louis V in 987 and was crowned at Reims. His reign was marked by weak power and dependence on vassals, but he maintained good relations with the Catholic Church, which helped to stabilize his rule. Hugo died in 996 and was buried in Saint-Denis Basilica.
