Jim Jones - Wikipedia

On November 18, 1978, Jim Jones led a mass suicide-murder at Jonestown, Guyana. Over 900 people, including children and babies, died after consuming poisoned grape flavored drink laced with sedatives. Eighty-five members managed to escape or hide during the event. The FBI later recovered an audio recording of the massacre, known as the "Death Tape." Jones's three sons were away from Jonestown at the time and returned to find the bodies of family members. The Guyanese military arrived to find the dead, and the US military airlifted the remains back to the US for burial. Jones was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head, and his body was cremated. The event led to widespread media coverage and condemnation from Christian leaders, who denounced Jones as Satanic. The Peoples Temple collapsed in the aftermath, and numerous investigations were conducted by law enforcement and Congress.
