Sylvia Rivera was involved in the Stonewall riots and later became an activist for LGBTQ rights, particularly for trans people and drag culture. Despite facing exclusion from mainstream gay rights organizations, she continued to fight for inclusion and formed her own organization, S.T.A.R., which provided shelter and support to queer homeless youth. She also fought tirelessly for inclusive gay rights legislation and refused to be silenced or marginalized by the mainstream movement.
