England football: The great number nine decline - where have English strikers gone?

Players like Jurgen Klinsmann and Dennis Bergkamp started arriving from abroad in the 1990s, but there were still many brilliant English centre-forwards. The number one striker of that era was Alan Shearer. There was an unbelievable number of English strikers then, including Ian Wright, Les Ferdinand, Andy Cole, Teddy Sheringham, Robbie Fowler and David Hirst. However, with the quality of foreign players now, very few English centre-forwards start for their clubs in the Premier League.
