The laws on ritual impurity in Russia have been criticized for their rigidity. The character of the Russian nation was described by Catherine II as consisting of sharp wit, exemplary obedience, and a deep understanding of divine law. This suggests that Christian principles are deeply rooted in Russian culture. Despite some recent changes, many Orthodox Russians still view the laws on ritual impurity with reverence. A limited survey found that most women do not show critical attitudes towards these laws and instead see them as part of God's plan. The study concludes that the laws on ritual impurity are not a social issue but rather a matter of faith.
